We’re excited to announce that we’re able to offer Ice Carving Workshops this season! The sessions are intended to introduce you to ice carving basics, the nuances of working with carving ice, the tools carvers use, and how to make the most of your blank canvas. You’ll also learn about the properties of the ice and how it behaves at different temperatures. This workshop is appropriate for beginners and those who might have dabbled in the past. The workshops are taught by professional ice carvers, so it’s also a chance to advance your skills.

We’re offering the workshops in collaboration with the Flying Canoë Volant Festival, located on the Rutherford School grounds (91 St. & 86 Ave.), across the street from La Cité Francophone.

The workshops are running Jan. 31, and Feb. 1, 2024, 6:30-9:30 pm, with a limit of 40 artists per evening. The cost to participate is $40 per artist, per evening, and includes a 20” x 7” x 7” uniquely specialized ice block, the use of all the tools you’ll need for your creation, and our professional carving instructors.

What you do with your masterpiece after the workshop is up to you; you can leave it to be displayed, gift it to a friend or organization, or take it home and display it in your yard.

You’re in good hands with our instructors – Clifford Vacheresse and Steve Buzak just took 3rd place in Chiseled against other world-class carvers with their whimsical carving, Float.

Chiseled, Edmonton’s International Ice Carving Competition took place from Jan. 18 – 20 at the Ice District Plaza. The masterpieces will be on display until the end of February, so if you’re looking for inspiration, or to scope the variety of techniques, this is your opportunity. We hope you’ll stop by and check them out – they’re pretty stunning! If you have a chance to visit, don’t forget to vote for your favourite in the People’s Choice Award.
